Workouts in the Q

I want to take a minute to talk about working out in quarantine and things that have helped me stay on track with my personal fitness goals.
When quarantine first started I felt so lost. As someone who likes to wake up, workout first thing in the am before work, I slowly lost all sorts of motivation as quarantine dragged on.
*Side note - I am currently back at my parents house in CT quarantining with them, my 3 siblings, and dog. My family is very into working out so I am lucky and fortunate enough to have a full gym area in the basement that we all use on rotation.
If you know me, you know I am a creature of habit and once I become hooked on something, it's hard for me to change it up - whether it's food, a specific workout, etc.
Naturally, since my parents have a Peloton bike, I became obsessed! There was literally a two week span where I would only do the cycling classes and nothing else. I woke up every morning, took a fun class with amazing music, and immediately my day was already off to a great start. It was all great until I noticed the changes and didn't love the way cycling made my body feel. I was so conflicted because obviously any workout is a great thing for you mentally / physically, but I knew something felt off.
I want to also make a point to say that every body requires a different workout and we are all SO different- some workouts work wonders for some, and don't for others. For me I just wasn't loving the way my legs felt especially later in the day, I just felt weighed down. I would also wake up in the middle of the night with a horrible charley horse in my calf muscles which wasn't fun.
That's when I knew it was time to change it up. I had been following MelissaWoodHealth on Instagram and was so into her stories- especially her different workouts she was posting every day. They just looked fun and different! Her energy, vibe, and presence on social media just always put me in a good mood, so I decided to give her workouts a try and haven't looked back since!!!
I cannot emphasize enough how incredible her workouts are- especially the leg / booty series. They are so challenging, make me feel long, lean, and sexy. Most importantly, they leave me feeling motivated to take on the rest of my day with a positive mindset.
This also brought me back to how I felt when I did SolidCore at school my senior year. I loved the way my body felt with these lower impact yet strengthening workouts. Once the city opens back up, SolidCore is first on my list.
This honestly really got me thinking because before quarantine I swore by running / cardio. It's crazy to think how many HIIT workouts I have done in the past and how meh I've felt afterwards.
That's not to say I won't do a peloton again, because I definitely will. But I won't rely on it as my main workout, maybe just incorporate it 1-2x a week. I am addicted to running and always will be - and thankfully I don't notice the same affects cycling has on my body when I run.
I hope you guys got something out of this - whether it is a wake up call to change your workouts / try something new, or just being more in tune with the affects of specific workouts on your body.
XO,
LP
